Welcome to the “Global Master of Public Administration (GMPA)”, an unique program of the Graduate School of Public Administration (GSPA) at the Seoul National University (SNU). In regards of the international cooperation in the globalizing world, it is an important imperative for the GSPA, as a leading school in the field of public administration, to serve our mission to share the knowledge and experience we have gained through the development in Korean history by training the most outstanding public officials from developing countries as well as those from Korea.
GMPA student currently consists of the two different, but highly relevant, strands of people: one is for the highly distinguished public officials from developing countries, the other group includes the public officials from the Korean government, selected d by the Ministry of Security and Public Administration, Republic of Korea and professionals from public sectors such as public news media.
In cooperation with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), a national agency for ODA, the GMPA program was launched in 2011. Since then we have been accepting about 20 qualified students from developing countries each year, who were awarded scholarships by either KOICA or the school’s own scholarship programs. In September 2014, GMPA was officially established as one of majors in the Department of Public Administration, Graduate School of Public Administration. Now there are two groups of master students in GMPA program: one for public officials from developing countries and the other for Korean public officials and professionals from public sectors such as public news media. Since then Korean public officials started joining in GMPA program. The GMPA program for Korean public officials is designed to study the first year in SNU and then continue their study in one of our collaborating universities of their choice, the world class universities that have signed a MOU with our school, for the following year to earn joint MPA degrees.
Although these groups of students are both new in our GSPA history, they will form an excellent community to contribute to the global society with a huge support from related government institutions, international organizations, and schools from all over the world. We expect more qualified students from all over the world to apply for our program and our graduates to contribute to their country’s development, altogether forming a indispensable global network. We, the faculty and staff members of GSPA, will also walk in step with you to achieve the goals. Thank you.
